Entry: Last Posting Jun 18, 2004

This will likely be my last posting until I return to the states. We arrived at Porta Lopez which is on the coast.  I had not idea places like this really existed.  Think of all those pictures of starving childen in 3rd world countries, dirt streets, dog everywhere, filth...well...I am there!  We found a clean hostal to stay in right on the water with a private bath and hot water.  They do not have any mosquito netting so I will have to cover myself in bug spray after my shower so that I am not a human pin cushion tonight as I sleep. We are going to Isla de La Plata tomorrow.  2 hour boat ride over, 4 hour hike on the island, snorkeling (iffy on this - depends on the cleanliness of the equipment) and 2 hour boat ride back.  Then early Sunday morning we are heading down the coast and will return to Quito late Monday night.  This is really the most adventurous part of the trip as no place takes credit cards and I am down to my last $100.  I am up to the challenge and looking forward to seeing how creative I can get.  The bus ride down here was more of an adventure than last weekend. I only wish I had the courage to take a picture!

Need to go, this is expensive!  Love to all and PLEASE keep me in your prayers.  I will update the weblog when I return home to the states with all the adventures of this weekend.  Thanks for everyones participation!

I think we should all give Randy a big round of applause for comparing his "lake dacha" experience to what Amy was experiencing in Ecuador. Way to go Randy, it makes it all so real for the rest of us! I wish I could do the same thing but I live this mundane life here in CA where the year round median temperature is a comfortable 78* with no humidity, Beach about 30 minutes away, mountains and winter sports about 90 minutes away, world class resorts and amusement parks within 20 miles and surrounded by family. Not much to offer.

Thrill Seeker - Well, I have not found myself in any third world countries lately, but . . . make lake place is on a dirt road and the neighborhood dog tries to bite my ankles everytime I pass him on the golf cart. I spent this morning in a jungle like environment. I was weed eating the lake lot. It is a 35 minute drive from Aurora and a 1 minute hike from the house to the area that I was weed eating. Before ordering breakfast at the Lakeview Acres convenience store, trailer park, cafe and seemstress shop, I checked my wallet and found I was down to my last $20.

Have a great trip back to the states. Talk to soon!!
